The Gaza Strip is the smaller of two separate areas of Palestine, located on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, bordered by Egypt to the southwest and Israel to the east and north. The length of this strip is about 41 kilometers and width is only 6 to 12 kilometers. But the population here is 20 lakhs, which makes it one of the most densely populated areas in the world.
In 2005, Israel decided to withdraw from Gaza and the West Bank as part of an agreement with the Palestinian Authority. At the same time, Israel also started the work of removing the Jewish settlements located in Gaza and the West Bank. Elections held in 2007 took power by Hamas, which is considered a terrorist organization by many countries, including Israel and the United Nations. Hamas also broke contact with the Arabs living on the West Bank, who were a result of the creation of Israel in 1948 and hence were still connected to the Gazans.
